Barclays Loans Go Green

Fri, 07 Dec 2007

Barclaycard is set to become the first bank in the UK to offer a linked credit card and loan which helps to offset carbon emissions . The Barclaycard Breathe Easy will be launched in summer 2008 and is the latest in a line of methods used by banks in an attempt to attract consumers.

The scheme offers a discount on home insulation products for Breathe Easy card holders, who can then pay back the cost as a loan. With many consumers complaining that they cannot afford the products required to make their home more environmentally friendly, Barclays claim their scheme makes the equipment more affordable, with customers able to enjoy the long term benefits long after they have paid off the costs.

Barclays have stepped up their efforts to attract new customers in recent months, with Barclays one of very few banks to cut personal loan rates in the wake of the credit crisis.
