A woman who lied in order to obtain loans and credit cards has been given a suspended sentence by a judge. Theresa Healer of Ash Crescent, Seaham, managed to attain three credit cards by claiming to be in employment when was in fact was not. In total, the 53 year old took out over £43,000 in loans an amount that would usually result in jail given the circumstances of obtaining by deception .
However, as Healer has repaid nearly £30,000 of the loans, the judge decided a suspended sentence was sufficient punishment, with the remaining £14,000 to be repaid over the next two years.
The investigation had begun following a drugs raid on her home, which resulted in £1,140 cash being found. Her response to the police that she hadnt worked for 20 years and had been on benefits was inconsistent with her claim to loan companies that she was in employment.
